I became fascinated with Chinese Medicine after having acupuncture for hormonal problems in 2009. My GP told me I had ‘secondary infertility’ and that my rocketing hormone levels meant I was extremely unlikely to ever have a second child. I was devastated; I desperately searched for help and advice. I changed my diet, gave up drinking coffee and alcohol and took up running, I took every supplement known to man but it wasn’t enough. I started to research holistic treatments and discovered that acupuncture might help me. Despite being sceptical and scared of needles, I was desperate enough to try anything.
Firstly, let me put you out of your misery - I did indeed get my much longed-for second child! I also reaped many other benefits from my treatment; it helped me feel less stressed, more in control. My sleep improved dramatically and I felt happier, calmer and more able to deal with the stresses and strains that had previously weighed me down. I also noticed that the knee pain with which I had suffered with for years had gone. My digestive issues improved. As a result I became very interested in and inspired by Chinese Medicine and now that I can use it to help others, I am even more passionate about it.
Having graduated from the renowned College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, where I completed a three and half year degree in Acupuncture. I am also licensed by the local council and are a member of the British Acupuncture Council.
I practice a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Acupuncture and often incorporate Tuina massage within a treatment, especially when dealing with musculo-skeletal problems and pain. There is nothing more satisfying than watching a patient leave the clinic free of pain, or in considerably less pain than when they entered the room an hour previously!
Since graduating I have undertaken further training in using acupuncture for male and female fertility issues including IVF, and completed a year long Diploma in Tuina Massage. As a member of the British Acupuncture Council I abide by their strict codes of conduct and their program of continued professional development, meaning I am kept up to date with current teachings and research.
